More than 600
athletes and officials are expected for 19th Central
American and Caribbean Senior Track and Field Championships here
next month.
The Local
Organising Committee (LOC) said there are Preliminary Entries
totaling 604 from 27 countries.
So far the largest
delegation is expected from Mexico with 68, followed by the
Bahamas with 49, Grenada 46 and Jamaica and Puerto Rico 44 each.
On Monday, the
local Cuban Embassy issued a release confirming a 25-member
delegation from Cuba to the Championships.
“In accordance
with the information provided by the Cuban Athletic Association,
the Cuban delegation will include twenty-five members. Twenty-one
are athletes - eighteen in the regular line-up and others three as
a reserve, while the others four are coaches.” The release
stated.
The Cuban team
will compete, among others, in the following events:
javelin, shotput, hammer, discus, pole vault, heptathlon,
decathlon, triple jump, hurdles (110 and 400 meters), 100, 200 and
800 meters, and relay (4 x 100).
Some of the other
top names expected for the meet are Usain Bolt (Jamaica), Kim
Collins (St Kitts & Nevis), Darrel Brown (Trinidad &
Tobago), Debbie Ferguson (Bahamas), Ana Guevara (Mexico), Felix
Sanchez (Dominican Republic) and Alleyne Francique, Hazel-Ann
Regis and Neisha Bernard-Thomas (Grenada), among others.
