MDC & SDCSS win Inter-Col:
The day began with confidence for McDonald College and ended with celebrations as the school captured the Scotia Bank Inter-Col Track and Field Boys' Title for the first time.
However, it took the final event of the programme to decide the boys' champion as it was three-team race for the championship while St David's Catholic Secondary School (SDCSS) retained the girls' trophy even though they failed to complete their final event.
A few points separated the Grenada Boys' Secondary School (GBSS) leading the standings followed by MDC and defending champions St Andrew's Anglican Secondary School (SAASS).
But MDC's coach Neville Glean was always confident of winning the relays.
"They knew that it was the final event and they knew they had to win. Winning wasn't a problem, provided there was no incidents or accidents. Once everything was fine we were not afraid of the competition," said Glean.
The victory sparked wild celebrations among the athletes and supporters which culminated with a motorcade through the western side of the island Thursday night.
MDC finished with 98 points followed by GBSS with 92 and SAASS with 89 points among the top three finishers.
However, there were other celebrations as St. David's Catholic Secondary School retained the girls' championship for a sixth consecutive year and Westmorland Secondary School won their most medals in competition and their highest placing in the boys' division.
SDCSS amassed 118 points, 46 more than their closest rival, McDonald College.
Sherrie Fletcher, Nerissa Phillip and Coleen Felix were the dominant performers for SDCSS as they were relentless in their victory chase.
Westmorland shared in the glory as the 'sensational' Mikhail Joseph (under-17 boy) won the deuce. He also won the silver in the 400m.
It was the schools' best performance at the Inter-Col Games, finishing ahead of some of the traditional competitors including Happy Hill Secondary School and Grenville Secondary School.
A total of 17 games records were broken and two equalled over the two days of competition.
