Twelve track and field/cross country Volunteers earned spots on the 2002-03 Southeastern Conference's Academic Honor Roll the conference office announced Wednesday.

In standing with the conference leaders in that measure, Tennessee lengthens its streak of having the most total selections to the SEC Academic Honor Roll since head coach Bill Webb took the reins in 1996. The Vols boast an SEC-best 101 selections to the list in the Bill Webb Era (1996-2003).

To be included on the list, honorees must possess a 3.0 GPA and be at least a sophomore academically. The SEC bases the list on the roster and grades from the 2001-02 academic year, thus some members of the team have graduated.

Tennessee's academic dozen on the 2003 include Tim Bell (public relations), Karl Jennings (psychology), Keith Kimmons (history), Steve Klein (logistics and transportation), SEAN LAMBERT (chemistry), Matt Rush (mechanical engineering), Steve Pitlik (logistics and transportation), Leigh Smith (forestry), Hassaan Stamps (sport management), Kevin Thompson (political science), Shannon Wheatley (history) and Kevin Yeager (business).

This year LSU led the list with 15 honorees. Since 1996, however, Tennessee still leads the conference with 101 SEC Academic Honor Roll selections.

The Vols are followed by Georgia (93), LSU (88), Florida (76), Alabama (69), Arkansas (69), Auburn (69), South Carolina (62), Kentucky (42), Vanderbilt (42), Mississippi (41) and Mississippi State (41) in the 1996-present time period.
