An English athlete with Grenadian connection has taken his warm weather training to the shores of Grenada.

Colin Wilson, whose parents are Grenadians, is here for two weeks with his training partner and girlfriend, Camilla Waite.

Grenada Sports caught up with Wilson at the National Stadium on Saturday and spoke with him.

GS: What attracted you to Grenada?

CW: The first time I came here was on holidays with my mom and sister for a few weeks. I asked around about training and I was told that there was a track in St. George’s and I found that it was not just a track but also a natural stadium with good facilities.

Last year, a few members of the UK sprint group decided to come to Grenada and the good news started spreading.

The reason I chose Grenada over Europe was that last year I went to Portugal for some warm weather training and it rained 12 out of the 14 days we spent there in April.

So this year we’ve decided to come here to guarantee some better weather.

GS: And so far you have been enjoying the weather?

CW: Yes definitely, definitely. Again the track is a very good quality track (mondo surface), which, is good for sprinting. It’s been great so far. I haven’t seen the rest of the facilities like the gym or anything but I am been told that it has been pretty good.

The word is going around in the UK that Grenada is a very good place to go and train because of the facilities and the weather obviously.

GS: Tell me about your track history.

CW: I compete for Woodford Green Athletic Club in London and my girlfriend competes for Team Solent of Southampton.

I have been doing athletics for about three years.

My best times in the sprints are 6.74s in the 60m indoors; 10.6 in the 100m and 21.6 in the 200m.

Camilla competes over the 800 and 1500m.
