Captain Brian Lara and Vice
Captain Ramnaresh Sarwan made a terminally
ill West Indies fan elated on Thursday when they visited him at his
home
in Grenada on the eve of the 6th One Day International.
Mr. Earnest Marshall, a fervent West Indies fan has had chemotherapy
twice since being diagnosed with brain cancer in 2001. After hearing
of
Mr. Marshall's severe medical condition Lara and Sarwan felt compelled
to visit him along with team manager Ricky Skerritt. Mr. Marshall's
delight was clearly evident upon seeing the players enter his room.
Lara himself was inspired by Mr. Marshall who is in his late 50s.
Before
leaving Lara told him, "I am taking away some of the fight I see in
you."
The players signed autographs and chatted cricket with Mr. Marshall
and
his family during the visit.
Skerritt was deeply moved by Mr. Marshall's reaction upon seeing the
players. "I really can't explain it, but the gentleman's face just lit
up as soon as he saw the players," Skerritt said. "It was really
something very special," he added.
Mr. Marshall's deeply supportive family, graciously offered the
players
and manager gifts before they left.
The visit which was organized by Cable & Wireless Corporate
Communications manager (Grenada) Richard Simon.
