ST GEORGE'S, Grenada,
October 26 – The three-person committee which was setup primarily to
represent about half of the affiliate members of the Grenada Football
Association (GFA) is satisfied with FIFA's intervention and recommendations.
According to committee
member Paul Roberts, the 18 clubs which met and passed the No Confidence
Motion did so in the interest of football and which ultimately resulted in
the FIFA investigation.
He said among the areas of
concern were the safeguarding the interests of the 18 clubs, communicate
with FIFA/CONCACAF about visit to Grenada to sought out impasse and closer
scrutiny of GFA expenditure by Executive with the hope of curbing until the
arrival of FIFA delegation.
However, in a letter to the
GFA following the conclusion of the investigation FIFA reiterated it support
for the Executive Body and sought to reject the three-person committee.
“The three-man Committee
ceased to exist the moment FIFA/CONCACAF officials indicated their visit to
Grenada,” Roberts said.
“Someone misunderstood the
purpose of the three-man Committee – it was only a safeguard to the 18 clubs
and not intended to be an alternative to any institution of GFA we were like
a trade union movement for all intent and purpose,” he said.
Among the recommendations
by FIFA is the convening of an Extraordinary General Council Meeting within
30-45 days and the agenda should include the items raised in the June 28th
petition.
FIFA has also requested the
GFA should convene an Extraordinary General Council for the sole purpose of
adopting the revised statutes as approved by FIFA. This meeting, according
to FIFA, should be held within the next 30-45 days.
