More than 30-thousand dollars in
cash and other prizes would be presented on Saturday May 3 to winners of the
2002/2003 Grenada Football Association (GFA) season.
The presentation ceremony forms
part of the official opening of the 2003/2004 season.
Cash prizes, trophies and medals
would be presented to the top three teams in the Premier and First Divisions
while only the top two teams in the Second Division and the GFA Open Knock-Out
Tournament would get cash prizes.
There will also be individual
awards for Best Goalkeeper, Golden Boot and Most Valuable Player.
This year’s season will kick
off at the Tanteen Recreation Ground. Among officials to attend the ceremony is
the patron of the GFA, Governor General Sir Daniel Williams, Minister of Sport,
Hon. Adrian Mitchell and President of the GFA, Dr Elliott McGuire.
The opening game features
Premier League champions, Anchor Queen’s Park Rangers (QPR) and CableVision St
Andrew’s Football League (SAFL).
Prior to the opening game, a
cast of entertainers for the “Total Togetherness Concert” at the National
Stadium on Saturday will make an appearance courtesy the promoters.
Twenty-eight (28) affiliates
including newcomer, the T.A. Marryshow Community College (TAMCC), are expected
to participate in this year’s tournament.
Meantime, the GFA are requesting
teams to adhere to the rules for Saturday’s opening which begins at 1:30 p.m.
All clubs must report to Mr.
Peter James (Assistant Secretary) with a minimum of eleven (11) players in full
club colours at the Old Trafford Playing Field before 1:30 p.m. to receive a
match ball and instructions for the march past.
Clubs failing to march past with a minimum of eleven players would be fined $200, to be paid before their first game.
