Modeste gets try against US Nationals

BRADENTON, Fla. Feb 11 - National defender Patrick Modeste trained with US Major League Soccer (MLS) team DC United here on Wednesday.

 Modeste, who is on trial with the team, played during the second stanza of DC's friendly against the US Men's National Team.

 He was expected to take the field again on Thursday and train with DC United before joining the New England Revolution in its pre-season preparation.

 Local football officials are hopeful that Modeste will be successful, and the possibility for a second Grenadian to go on trials.

 An official told GrenadaSports that attempts are being made to finalise a trials at DC United and the Revs for US-based midfielder Ricky Charles.

 Modeste's trial was as a result of the visit of agent for midfielder Shalrie Joseph of New England Revolution, Ron Waxman.

 Waxman was guest of the GFA on Saturday January 31 to witness the Grenada/Barbados international friendly at the National Stadium.

 Meantime, Grenada continues with its preparation for the first-leg CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying game against Guyana scheduled for February 28 at the National Stadium.

 A number of foreign-based players are expected to join the training squad next weekend.

 Included in the foreign contingent are Jason Roberts (Wigan Athletic); Craig Rocastle (Chelsea FC); Ashley Sestanovich (Sheffield United); Byron Bubb (Aylesbury FC); Daryll Cox (Chestnut FC); Shalrie Joseph (New England Revolution); Anthony Modeste (Portsmore FC); Ricky Charles (USC-Spantanburgh).

 GFA's General Secretary Victor Daniel said efforts are being made to ensure that most of the foreign-based professionals are on the island a week before the game.
