ST GEORGE’S, July 08 (GFA) - After a bright
start to the 2005 Grenada Football Association (GFA) Women Football League,
the female footballers will be in action this weekend in the first round of
matches.
It is the hope of the GFA that the young
ladies will be given the necessary support from their various communities.
On Saturday defending champions Queen’s
Park Rangers (QPR) will play first timers Future Generations of Football (FUTGOF)
at Queens Park, then over at Cuthbert Peters, defending champions in the
five-aside tournament, St. John’s Sports will come up against another first
timer Eagles Super Strikers at Plains and Plains All Stars will be at home
to St Andrew’s Football League (SAFL) at Plains.
On Sunday, the lone fixture is between Five
Stars and Mt. Rich at the Victoria Park. Matches begin at 4:30 p.m.
Nine (9) teams have registered to compete
in this year’s tournament and according to Technical Administrator, Lester
Smith, there is the possibility of an additional team from St David.
Teams to compete are QPR, FUTGOF and
Fontenoy United from St George; Five-Stars and SAFL from St Andrew; Plains
All-Stars, ESS and Mt Rich from St Patrick and St John’s Sports.
