Official calls for respect, support and more time administrating
ST GEORGE’S, January 4, 2011 -
Sports Administrators attached to the Ministry of
Youth Empowerment and Sports have been admonished to respect, support and
spend more time in administrating their respective disciplines in 2011.
The call came from Permanent Secretary in the
Ministry of Youth Empowerment and Sports Mrs. Veda Bruno-Victor. In her
first meeting for the New Year with coaches Mrs. Victor stressed the
importance of better working relationship between coaches, sporting
associations and athletes for 2011.
The call comes on the heels of Government
approving the National Sports Policy. The policy envisages the formation of
a National Sports Council (NSC), with one of its primary objective being to
assist talented sportsmen and women to excel as world class performers.
The meeting, held at the National Stadium on
Monday, was geared at providing the coaches with the programme of activities
for this year, as well as the financial resources available.
“There are a lot of things that we can do without
money,” Mrs. Victor told the meeting. “Money is not all but we can respect,
support and be kind to each other, we don’t need money for that.”
The Permanent Secretary, who was accompanied by
Coordinators Conrad Francis and Bruce Swan, said that there are plans to
complete some major infrastructure development in three parishes.
She said that the lighting of the Alston George
Playing Field in St Mark and the La Sagesse Playing Field in St David and
the completion of the Cuthbert Peters Park in St John are all scheduled for
completion this year.
Meantime, Mr Francis said that the ministry will
be embarking on increased training for all officials
“Training is important and by upgrading one’s
self through internal seminars, workshops and practical sessions one would
be a better trained coach for 2011 and onwards."
