Cable & Wireless promise money for gold
medal
ST GEORGE'S, Grenada, August 06, 2004 - Cable & Wireless today
announced a major incentive for Grenada's Olympic hopefuls in Athens this month.
Head of Sales and Marketing, Aaron Moses said Cable &
Wireless will make a contribution of US$10,000 to Alleyne Francique if he wins
the gold medal in the men's 400m in Athens.
Moses made the announcement while presenting the
Grenada Olympic Committee with a cheque for EC$15,000 from sales of a special
Alleyne Francique phone card promotion.
"This is just part of our assistance, and you'll hear
of more in the coming weeks. We're also appealing to the corporate sector to
follow the lead of Cable & Wireless and come forward and make pledges" Moses
said.
Cable & Wireless also presented uniforms and phones to the
team and announced the launching of an Alleyne Francique website (www.alleynefrancique.com).
Grenada will be represented by three athletes and two
swimmers.
World Indoor 400m Champion, Alleyne Francique, who will
parade with the national flag at the opening of the Games on August 13, heads
the Grenada team which also includes Hazel-Ann Regis (400m); Randy Lewis (triple
jump); Melissa Ashby (100m breaststroke) and Jonathan Steele (50m freestyle).
