Steele retains GASA's Presidency

GASA's Executive
ST GEORGE’S, Grenada, Jan 27 -
Businessman Derek Steele has been re-elected President of the Grenada Amateur
Swimming Association (GASA) at its Annual General Meeting held over the weekend.
Steele will head GASA’s new
executive for the next two years which also includes Graham Williams as the new
vice-president replacing Cuthbert Williams; Stephanie Lewis-Simpson has been
re-elected as Secretary and Karen Bailey as the assistant secretary.
Also re-elected on the
executive are Steven George as treasurer and Kira Thompson as the public
relations officer.
The floor members elected were
Dr. Beverly Nelson, Gwenlian Andrews, Dr. Jane Noel and Michelle Watts.
Following the election of officers, discussions were held on the proposed
construction of a National Aquatic Centre.
Last year government announced
plans to construct a National Aquatic Centre in Beausejour in 2004.
The
announcement was made by Governor General Sir Daniel Williams during the
presentation of the Throne Speech at the ceremonial state opening of the
Parliament on September 26, 2003.
According to Sir Daniel, the centre will feature a 50-metre swimming pool and a
25-metre warm-down pool, as well as a change room, office facilities and seating
for 2,000 spectators.
He
said the National Aquatic Centre will be financed by the National Lottery
Authority and the Canadian Bank Note Inc.
