Tuesday Watts dominate Aquatic Swim Meet in Barbados

Grenada’s swim clubs – Grenfin Swimming Club, Orca Swim Club, Red Snapper Swim Club -plus five swimmers from St. Vincent, combined to become the Grenada Spicefins Swim Club at the 12th Annual Inter-Club Aquatic Center International Swim Meet in Barbados last weekend. 

There were eleven (11) Teams participating, 344 swimmers – Barbados with 7 teams, Grenada with 1 team and Trinidad with 3 teams.  One of the Barbados teams was the Casuarina Masters Swim Club.  The Grenada Spicefins placed 5th overall with 583 points.  In first place was the Barbados Pine Hill Alpha Swim Club with 1426 pts. Second, Trinidad Marlins with 804 pts. Third, Barbados Seafreight Stingrays with 626 pts. Fourth, Trinidad Pirates with 611pts. 

The Spicefins swam home with an impressive number of medals and ribbons ~ seven (7) individual Gold medals, five (5) Individual Silver medals, ten (10) Individual Bronze medals.  Ribbons were also awarded to the Club.  4th place – 4 ribbons, 5th place – 12 ribbons, 6th place – 7 ribbons, 7th place – 9 ribbons, 8th place – 13 ribbons.  In the Relay Events, Spicefins shone again with three (3) Gold Medals, three (3) Silver medals and four (4) Bronze medals.

The top swimmers included Carifta 2003 Gold Medallist Tuesday Watts (11/12 Age Group) who brought home the gold again!  Seven (7) Gold Medals, four (4) Silver medals and one (1) Bronze medal.  Watts’ major accomplishment at the Meet however was placing 4th in the 800M LC Freestyle – this was her first time in this event.  Watts also bettered her times in the 400M LC Freestyle, 100M LC Backstroke, 50M LC Butterfly, 100M LC Butterfly, 50M LC Breaststroke and 50M LC Freestyle. 

Ayesha Noel (8 & Under Age Group), the young swimmer who won the Individual Age Group Trophy early April at the St. Lucia Club Invitational, placed 3rd   in all 7 of her races, capturing 7 Bronze medals for her Club.  She bettered her times in 50M LC Backstroke, 100M LC Freestyle, 50M LC Butterfly, 200M LC Freestyle, 50M LC Breaststroke, 50M LC Freestyle.

Sophia Noel (9/10 Age Group), also an Age Group Trophy winner in St. Lucia early April, swam her way to a silver in the 50M LC Backstroke.

Martin Renwick (13/14 Age Group) won a Bronze medal in the 100M LC Breaststroke. 

The Spicefins performed magnificently as a Team, excelling in the Relays.

The 8 & Under Girls Relay Team placed 1st  in the 4x50M Medley Relay, the 4x100M Freestyle Relay and the 4x50M Freestyle Relay.  This team comprised of Ayesha Noel, Alana McQuilken, Ashley Bailey and Tishana Bell. 

The 9/10 Girls Relay Team placed 3rd in the 200M Medley Relay (4x50M) and in the 200M Freestyle Relay.  This team was Sophia Noel, Tuppeny Watts, Sherri Telesford, Kevlian Andrews (Freestyle) and Kadika Moore (Medley).

The 11/12 Girls Relay Team placed 3rd in the 200M Medley Relay (4x50M), the 400M Freestyle Relay (4x100M) and the 200M Freestyle Relay (4x50M).  On this team were Tuesday Watts, Aneeka Hopkin, Rozelles Grant and Anonia Hamid.

The Boys 11/12 Team placed 3rd in the 200M Medley Relay (4x50M) and 4th in the 400Freestyle Relay and 200M Freestyle.  This team consisted of Justin Williams, Esau Simpson, Jake DeCaul and Locskley Williams.

In the 15 & Over Boys, they swept away all Silver in the 4x100M Medley, 4x100M Freestyle and 4x50M Freestyle Relays.  The young men on this team were Kian Ashby, Stephen Mains, Steve Wallace and Fedel Davis.
