OECS to remain in Group IV Davis Cup
Saturday April 12, 2003

Panama and the US Virgin Islands will go up to Americas Group III for Davis Cup 2004, after topping Group IV at Costa Rica's Cariari Country Club.

The week-long tournament saw the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States finishing dead last, winless in their five ties.

The OECS ended with a loss to old nemeses Barbados, Michael Date bating Deron Grant 7-6(4), 6-2 and Damien Applewhaite defeating Kitsen Cable 6-3, 2-6, 7-5 before Akil Burgess and Duane Williams wrapped things up with a 6-1, 6-1 drubbing of Grant and Trevor Sam.

In Group III action, St. Lucia completed a woeful first outing at this level, losing to Honduras at the Jean Pierre Complex in Trinidad & Tobago.

After their own 0-5 misery, the St. Lucians will return to Group III in 2004. Pablo Hernandez beat Alberton Richeliu Jr. 6-0, 6-1 on Saturday; Carlos Caceres defeated Yves Sinson 6-2, 6-4; Caceres and Hernandez beat Richelieu and Sirsean Arlain 6-3, 6-1.
